People are continually asking me if anyone is doing similar things. The straightforward answer is “No!”. The nature of our maps and their ownership makes the project very different from others. The way we are planning the HCI (“human/computer interface”...as in what you see on the computer screen) is, I think and hope, going to be a bit different simply as it will be designed with the specific needs of the various parts of the interested community in mind. ...but we will see when we get that far.
Having said all that it is always interesting to see how, if one person has a good idea then in an entirely different place someone else is probably having the same one. Ideas have their time... and this sort of project seems to be up there at the moment. Luke Maloney sent me a link that you may all be interested in:- http://usvsth3m.com/post/77080517628/1746-map-of-london-now-available-as-an-incredibly It is a georeferenced short series of maps of London going back to 1746. If memory serves me correctly the NLS were also involved in the project.
Please do send in any interesting maps/sites that you come across as others I am sure would be interested.
